Choosing a material for your Grand Rapids asphalt project can be difficult. Asphalt: The most popular material for an asphalt project is the blacktop, which is also known as asphalt. This material goes back to Roman times and has been around ever since – even today there are still Roman roads that have not deteriorated (though they’re no longer in use). That’s because this material lasts forever when it gets its regular maintenance checks. It can be laid on grass or dirt and doesn’t require a special base like concrete does.

Plus, you don’t need any other materials for installation – just tarps to cover the work area! Blacktop isn’t usually used by itself but instead combined with another product such as gravel, sand, or crushed stone dust — all of these combinations allow designers much more freedom to create the perfect aesthetic.

Blacktop Additives: The two most popular additives for blacktop are asphalt emulsions and liquid rubber, which have a lot of benefits when added to your project – they provide better coverage, help with traction in extreme temperatures, soundproofing properties (which is great if you’re near homes or businesses), reduce cracking during installation, among other things.

Rigid Pavement: If you want something more durable that can withstand heavy traffic for decades at a time without showing wear-and-tear than rigid pavement might be what you need; this material lasts much longer than blacktop but it’s not going to perform as well in cold climates because it isn’t flexible enough.
