About Last Stand

We are a membership organization and members are our foundation.  Please join us.  Our vision is to protect the Keys' Quality of Life (with emphasis on the natural environment) from pollution and unwise developments and practices.

Mission Statement:

Last Stand has been organized to promote, preserve, and protect the quality of life in the city of Key West, the Florida Keys and their environs, with particular emphasis on the natural environment.

Last Stand can be visualized as a roundtable of environmentally-conscious citizens.  This roundtable has an umbrella which represents our custom of working with other groups which emerge to fight specific environmental abuses ranging from neighborhood issues to the restoration of the Everglades and the Coral Reef.  We believe in coalitions to increase the power of the people.

The roundtable happens twice monthly at the Board of Directors Meeting, on the first and third Mondays at the Monroe County Library in Key West at 12:30pm.

Members of Last Stand  are encouraged to attend.

We currently have sixteen Directors.  They are nominated by committee and stand for election (or re-election) by the general membership at the Annual Meeting early in each year.  Directors lead specific-issue committees and/or monitor areas of community concern.  All environmental activists are invited to apply for nomination; we are very INclusive.  Often there are vacancies on the Board, and interested individuals may usually join at any time on a temporary basis before they stand for election.
