WATERMARK RESIDENCES/JABOUR’S TRAILER COURT
DEVELOPMENT
Historic Architectural Review
Commission
Tuesday, August 24 3PM
Old City Hall
2ND Floor
510 Greene Street, Key West
(Elevator at rear of building through
entrance by parking lot.)
HARC will now be hearing this proposal tomorrow. It is fairly
high in the agenda but may be moved. If you are planning to attend, I
have been advised that the room is chilly and you may wish to bring a
jacket. Also as it may be heard later in the agenda, you might want
to bring a snack.
The development proposed for Jabour’s Trailer Court as approved by
HARC and presented to the Planning Commission included 32 two
bedroom/three bath units and a building height of 42 feet, including a
fourth floor with 10-foot ceilings. City planning staff believe the
units are too dense and out of scale with the surrounding
neighborhood. The City Charter specifies that building height cannot
exceed 35 feet unless for a sloped roof over an uninhabitable space.
The Planning Commission voted to return the proposal to HARC for
further review. The proposal to be considered at HARC tomorrow has
been amended to change roof design from mansard to hip, to reduce the
height of the structures from 42’ to 40’, to remove air conditioning
equipment from the roof and to use standing seam metal roofing on the
entire roof. No amendments to density were included.
If you don’t think high density, massive structures are appropriate
for this Bight location, it is important that you speak out. Contact
HARC. Contact your city commissioner. Be at the meeting.
