Last Stand sincerely thanks its friends and members who made our August 19 Summer Fun(d)-raiser at the Turtle Kraals Museum a success.

About 30 members and friends of Last Stand spent Thursday evening at Turtle Kraals Museum in Key West, enjoying the museum displays, learning about turtles, socializing and enjoying great food and drink.

Tom Wilmers, biologist with US Fish & Wildlife Service, who has monitored turtles in the Key West National Wildlife Refuge for almost two decades, and for whom these creatures are a passion, gave an informative slide presentation on the state of turtle populations in the Keys... both good and bad news.

The evening also featured a silent auction for a boat trip with Captain Tina Brown, Museum Director, when she takes the recently-rescued loggerhead baby turtles (news story here) out to release them into nature.  The babies are shown at left.

We sincerely thank Tina and the Turtle Kraals Museum for hosting the event, and our friend Tom Wilmers for the "turtle talk" and for his years of dedication to these critters.

Thanks also to Key West writer Theresa Foley, who was on hand to sign her book Cetacia.  She generously shared a portion of her book sales with Last Stand.  Theresa's website is here.

We also especially thank Turtle Kraals Restaurant and Bar for the very yummy munchies!  Their website is here.  Please patronize them as well as the Museum.
