Turn out Lights for Earth Hour on March 29th

The Key West City Commission, Last Stand, GLEE, and other business and civic groups have pledged to participate in Lights Out America – Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is a global climate change initiative begun by World Wildlife Fund, calling on individuals and businesses around the world to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 29th, from 8 to 9 pm (local time).  Here's a link to WWF's Earth Hour website. (site may load slowly)

The aim of the campaign is to express that individual action on a mass scale can help change our planet for the better.  Making a commitment to turn out lights for one hour is a symbolic and pragmatic gesture intended to raise awareness on this day and to encourage greater energy conservation practices all year long.

A Key West restaurant participating in Earth Hour 2008 is The Café, on Southard Street.  They'll offer candlelight dinner during this hour to show their support of the Earth Hour initiative.

At its March 18 meeting, the Key West City Commission adopted the Proclamation (below), expressing the city's official support for Earth Hour 2008 - Lights Out America.

Last Stand is proud to have brought the Earth Hour initiative before the City Commission, and we're pleased that Mayor McPherson and the Commissioners expressed enthusiastic support for the idea of energy conservation.
