In case you're wondering, here's a summary of 2006 Beach Advisories for Keys public beaches, based on county tests for sewage-related bacteria... from the May 28 Key West Citizen:

Advisory history

Monroe County tests 17 beaches weekly for enterococcus and fecal coliform, two kinds of intestinal bacteria that indicate fecal pollution. Poor levels (105 enterococci and 400 fecal coliform organisms per 100 milliliters) prompt an advisory. Moderate levels (36-104 of the former and 200-399 of the latter) do not. Results for this year are:

LOWER KEYS

Smathers: Advisories Jan. 17 and May 9; moderate levels Feb. 28.

Higgs: Advisory Feb. 28; moderate levels Jan. 17, April 11, April 18 and May 16
