Stand recently reached from way down here in Key West and the
Lower Keys all the way up to Key Largo, to thank fellow activist John
Hammerstrom for his dedicated and diligent work, done from his end
of this island chain, on several issues dear to us. Those issues
include... ...sensible and sustainable growth,
...preservation of critical wildlife habitat, and
...opposition to increased highway traffic into the
Keys by overbuilding US1.
John has spent many, many hours researching the
18-Mile Stretch and other highway safety issues, and has been a stalwart
fighter for safe and sensible solutions. Like us,
John believes that the highway can be made safer without
making it a high-capacity superhighway which would only exacerbate most
of the problems we face in the Keys.
What happens in Key Largo affects Key West, and what
happens in Key West affects Key Largo. As Last Stand
takes increased interest in environmental and quality-of-life issues
beyond Key West (i.e. at the county level and higher), we recognize and
salute John's hard work by presenting him a complimentary (and most
certainly honorary) 2003-2004 Last Stand membership.
Thank you, John! |
