PRESS RELEASE - LAST STAND ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP
MEETING 2008
FAMOUS FLORIDA
AUTHOR TO SPEAK AT LAST STAND ANNUAL MEETING
Diane Roberts, author of Dream State:
Eight Generations of Swamp Lawyers,
Conquistadors, Confederate Daughters, Banana
Republicans, and Other Florida Wildlife
is to be the keynote speaker at Last Stand's
Annual meeting on Thursday, January 24.
Diane's presentation promises to be
informative, as well as a lot of fun!
Her talk is entitled "Dream
State 2008, Or How Florida Hopes to Atone
for the Massive Screw-Up of 2000."
In
Diane's words, her talk will look at how
Floridians (well, a few anyway) are trying
to get a clue about the environment (the
governor says no new coal-fired plants),
water use (Everglades lawsuits, clean-up,
Lake Okeechobee), general stupidity (the
new school science standards are FINALLY
going to teach Evolution and call it
Evolution), and messed-up elections -- no
more butterflies, chads OR dubious touch
screens.
Diane's talk will also include information
about the VERY important issue of renewing
Florida Forever and defeating Amendment 1,
as well as some witty jibes at Marco Rubio,
Boy Speaker of the House and Jeb Wannabe,
who is now presiding over the destruction of
higher education in this state.
Diane is well qualified to speak of such
matters as she is an acclaimed NPR
commentator, BBC contributor, columnist for
the St. Petersburg Times and Professor of
Creative Writing at the Florida State
University.
Please join us at The Historic Armory, home
of The Studios Key West, at the corner of
White St and Southard at 6pm for wine & hors
d'oeuvres. The annual business meeting
starts at 6:30 and Diane's talk starts at
7pm.
All members and friends of
Last Stand are welcome.
