... a Last Stand Public Information Forum:

Water Quality - What the Experts Say

Please join us for a Last Stand Public Information Forum about the state of Key West's nearshore waters, as part of our campaign to make our beaches safe

 

The Forum will be Wednesday, May 14, at NOAA's Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center at the Truman Waterfront, Key West

The program begins at 5:30 pm, followed by refreshments in partnership with Green Drinks

The program is free of charge and the public is welcome 

 

The panel of experts:

Bobbi Sleighter (Monroe County Health Department): 
Water testing at the beaches:  What do the results mean?
 
David Fernandez (City of Key West):
Sewers and Stormwater:  What has the city accomplished and what needs to be done?
 
Mike McCleary (Reef Relief):
What is the "no dump zone" for boats and how is it enforced?  What's in our storm water run off?
 
Scott Donahue (NOAA):
What protections for our waters come with National Marine Sanctuary designation?  Are they enough?
 
Paul J. Mitchell (Long-time Key West resident & engineer):
An insider tells us how has the condition of nearshore waters, at the beaches and in the bights, has changed in the past 50 years.

The NOAA Eco-Discovery Center is at the Truman Waterfront in Key West.  To get there, take Southard Street to its west end, through the Truman Annex gate and around the curve.  You can't miss it.  Plenty of parking.
